Computer/Network Support Technician

Tech-X is seeking a full-time computer/network support technician whose job responsibilites include:

  • Desktop support: Windows and Mac OS operating system user support, configuration and software package support for on- and offsite employees (~55 and 4 respectively)
  • Systems Installation: Setup and install new desktop and laptop systems according to standard guidelines. Basic hardware support: Research, procure, replace or install basic system components.
  • Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve problems with PC/Mac OS software, email access and use, Internet connectivity including LAN, WAN and wireless, printing.
  • Conference Rooms Support: Projector and teleconferencing equipment. Visitor Support: Wireless, printing, presentation support. Backup monitoring: Monitor tape backup system and provide reports. Restore upon request.
  • Printing Support: Monitor printing systems and supplies, provide user support.
  • Linux system monitoring: Monitor logwatch.
  • Procurement: Maintain inventory of computing supplies, order and receive basic supplies.

Job requirements: Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience. Minimum of one year working in the technical field. Basic knowledge of Windows and Mac OS environments, networking, wireless connectivity and routers, internet security, desktop installation and troubleshooting. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with on- and offsite users, employment candicates and guests, as well as phone support contacts. Experience with Linux a plus. Experience with Backup Exec a plus.

Computational Research Scientist

Tech-X Corporation invites applications for a permanent scientific research position to study computational electromagnetics and electrostatics. We are looking for scientists with interest in and experience with modeling of RF devices and ion sources, especially as pertaining to ion thrusters and superconducting RF cavities. More detailed topics include particle kinetics of ion sources, field-induced and particle-induced electron emission processes, multipacting and optimization of superconducting RF cavities. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in physics or engineering, with a strong background in computing.

We will consider both junior and senior candidates, with preference given to those with experience in beam or plasma physics simulation. Tech-X Corporation offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Software Developer

Applications are invited for a permanent software developer position at Tech-X Corporation in the Distributed Technologies Group. Our group performs innovative research and development in computer science in support of scientific computation (with a focus on physics) and mission critical systems. Some of our current projects involve Web Services for Scientific Grid Computing, applying modern parallel architectures and frameworks such as the Common Component Architecture to scientific simulations, distributed, real-time and high-performance middleware, and visualization support for scientific codes run remotely on supercomputers such as those at the national lab facilities.

The successful applicant should have a degree in computer science or a related field and be proficient in object-oriented languages such as C++ and Java.

Computational Physicist, Fusion and Accelerator Sciences

Tech-X Corporation invites applications for a permanent scientific research position at the research scientist level for the development and use of massively parallel computational applications for the study of plasmas and beams. We are looking for scientists with interest in and experience with numerical modeling of plasma physics relevant to magnetic confinement fusion, including core/edge coupling, transport, and wall interactions, as well as for scientists with knowledge accelerator modeling. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have demonstrated knowledge of modern computing techniques such as object oriented methodologies, cross-platform development, and massively parallel applications. The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in the development, testing, and running of large plasma and electromagnetics computational applications. Knowledge of associated numerical methods is desired. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have demonstrated knowledge of object oriented methodologies, cross-platform development, and massively parallel applications.
