ELVIS

Endless Learning Visual Information Space

The Endless Learning Visual Information space, or ELVIS, is a Web-based visual information space designed for educators to easily search, gather, add and share documents in real-time or asynchronously. Providing access to a professional community through a Web browser, ELVIS uses a building metaphor to represent how people might gather (in rooms) to get information (documents) or discuss (discussion groups) topics of mutual interest. Navigating groups of documents and people is as simple as going to a different floor or room in the space. ELVIS can host topic-specific discussions, making it ideal for educational meetings, and users can communicate with one another while searching for information and posting their own documents.

Example Application
It is difficult for science instructors teaching pre-K through grade twelve to judiciously filter and adapt the large amounts of Web-accessible classroom materials and remain confident they are aligned with the required national, regional, or state standards.

Using ELVIS, science teachers can enter through their Web browser. With a library structure based on a robust code, and containing a set of standards-aligned content, ELVIS offers a full Web service with a user-friendly client interface, chat facilities and document handling features.
